Finding himself in the world
It’s only natural to learn to walk,
Conjure solids out of empty space,
Mold toes from pith,
Pucker the strain and stretch of skin
Into the first efforts of movement.
Delicious uprootings from the pull of earth,
Those thoughtful footsteps into a beyond
Born of dreams long nurtured
In the rich till of loam.
Where to in the wide wonder,
What clean streets of imagination
Await the footprint
Of each steady tread?
